“Even with some of the murderers that I meet, I even like them, too. Sometimes… Like them, and even respect them. Not for what they did, certainly not for that. But for that part of them which is intelligent, or funny or just nice. Because there’s niceness in everyone, a little bit, anyhow.”
- Peter Falk as Lt. Columbo (in “Try and catch me”, 1977)
It was an unusually cold winter day in Germany. My father and me were coming back from a relaxing ride through the frosty landscape that was waiting for the first innocent snowfall, and a light wind was blowing as we brought our two horses back to the stable. We felt the cold as we came across an old chap tending the stables.
“Hey, what’s with that weather you ordered?”, my father asked him with a wink.
The chap stopped and smiled. “Yes, it’s pretty cold, huh? But I’m happy about it.”
“Why?”, my father asked.
“Well, if I wasn’t happy, it would still be cold, wouldn’t it?”
